Successful Home Office Design
Are you one of the thousands of women running a business at home…maybe in your spare bedroom? Or do you have a home office away from ‘the office’? Do you love your office space? Do you feel happy and productive working there? If not, don’t stress! The good news is you can start with what you have, use some creative Feng Shui design tips for color, organization & furniture placement and create a beautiful office you love that will also boost your success.
Here is an example of what just a few hours of re-design did to improve productivity, overcome despair and achieve success for one client.
RESULTS: A few weeks after this re-design the client was awarded an extremely generous scholarship for graduate school.
Below, the desk is pushed against the wall and there is a slanted ceiling over her head when seated. While placing a desk against the wall saves space in a small room, there are two reasons why there are better choices. First, facing a wall can make you subconsciously feel “up against a wall”, overwhelmed by too much work. Second, being able to easily see the door and anyone who enters from your desk gives a feeling of security.

Three issues in this home office creating poor working conditions and stagnant energy flow. 1. The desk faces a wall 2. It is overly cluttered above and beneath, and 3. there is inadequate lighting.

The same space is now re-designed as a reading area with inspiring artwork, adequate lighting, free of clutter.

Entrance to left side of office before the re-design.

Right side of office before re-design

A de-cluttered desk, convenient storage and better lighting, she has made an impressive start in organizing her office and business.
After just 4 hours of de-cluttering and re-design,
1. she enters her home office easily,
2. sits in the command position (see whoever is entering)
3. works at a de-cluttered desk with organized files in easy reach, and
4. uses the sofa (seen in the photo above) for a client or reading.
While there is more to do….organizing and adding another bookcase, in just 4 hours we made a significant impact on her space, and her morale. She now feels “in command” of her success.
